Democracy Player post #2

Okay.

So I've used the Democracy Player a little bit, here's my reflections.

I REALLY. REALLY. REALLY REALLY like it.

That said.

It's buggy.

Granted, it's only version .8

But it's buggy. Know the main play button, on the bottom? Yeah, that doesn't work.

Yeah, exactly! How does that get through?

Also, the video status bar? Doesn't do anything.

I am NOT ragging on this program at all. It is absolutely fantastic, but right now it's buggy, so, John Mark, don't even try it. I know how you are, anything that isn't perfect drives you nuts and you'll never use it again. But this piece of software is just TOO GOOD AN IDEA to ignore because this version is buggy.

Fortunately, it's open source!

DemocracyTV

Democracy - Internet TV Platform - Free and Open Source

*Jaw Drops*

This is seriously the coolest thing I have EVER seen.

And I own a Segway.

This right here is the FUTURE.

Basically, it's a media player with RSS built in. Know how itunes has podcasting built in? And how it can play certain types of video?

Democracy player is the same idea, but can play anything, and takes a different organizational look at things. Instead of thinking about media as coming in "feeds", it calls them channels, and tries to make the whole process feel like you're watching a television channel.

This has a couple of benefits; the average joe can understand this analogy better. "A feed, whats that?" in comparision to "Oh, so we've got the Eagle Call channel. I'll watch that."

Essentially, what we're looking at here is version .8 of peer to peer, IPTV. Traditional broadcast models are going to go the way of the dodo.

I'm so excited to be in on the ground floor.

Well, I ordered my new computer

Well, I did it.

I got exactly what I posted in that other post.

The funny thing, the thing I'm most excited about is actually the Dell HDTV/Monitor. I expected that I'd be most excited about the actual box, but, that TV/monitor is really cool.

The box is awesome too. I can't wait to run some nice games and do some nice editing.

I'm going to use my laptop as a portable type LAN Party thing, doing editing stuff at school (for yearbook), Net box, writing papers, a box for ripping DVDs (because you literally cannot use the computer while it's ripping), that kind of stuff.

So I'm thinking about doing a "Build a PC" tutorial video. Think that's a good idea?

Google Pages

Relaxation of the Mind

Okay, guys, google has this new thingy, it's like a web page but I don't know it's a WYSIWIG editor and stuff and it's buggy but you can get a page on the net up real fast but I don't like that my google account name is really long I wish I could use one of the other ones I hav ebut then I'd have to log in and out of google all the time and Id on't want to do that I don't know it's cool but at the same time it's kinda dumb.

What is Podcasting?

Saturday, February 18, 2006

And for my 100th post!

Wow, this is my hundredth post! *fanfare*

Anyway, the purpose of this post is to post the specs for my new box, so I can get some feedback from you guys. So without further ado:

First we have the case
Centurion Coolermaster Case
The case has 2 USB, 1 Firewire and mic and speaker ports in the front.

Power supply:
OCZ ModStream OCZ52012U ATX, BTX, SATA, P4 and EPS12V 520W
Wanna make sure I have enough power for high end power hungry processors and video boards.

Next up is the Motherboard:
Lanparty Nforce4 Ultra Socket 939
Tons of built in ports, comes with rounded IDE cables, 2 integrated NICs, 6 channel onboard sound (!), and is apparently really good for overclocking, something that I'm interested in learning about and experimenting with, eventually.

Processor:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
I went dual core because I'm gonna do hardcore editing and rendering. If I were just doing normal computer stuff and gaming I'd have gone single core.
Also want to be a tad future proofed.

Graphics card:
Geforce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16
Really nice graphics card. Not the highest of high end (that'd be like, $800) but most definently capable of running all the latest games and stuff.

RAM:
CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
It's RAM, what do I say about this?
I guess I have a question; if I want to overclock in the future, will I need higher end RAM or what? I think I read that somewhere, I'm not sure. Can Q answer?

Hard drive:
Western Digital 400 GB hard drive
I can most certainly buy more drives, in the future. And I will. Ooh I want a terabyte someday!

Optical drive:
Sony DVD+-RW DVD-RAM CD-RW, basically does everything technically possible

Monitor:
Dell W2306C 23" HD-Ready LCD TV
This is a really cool thing. I'm going to replace the TV in my room with this bad boy, so I can have my new PC and my Playstation and whatever else I want to hook up.

Not shown is Windows XP Professional, and a Logitech MX518 mouse. I have the MX500 and I LOVE it. I've used the wireless MX1000 (my brother has one), which is a laser based optical, but I am not a fan of the side to side rocking function of the wheel. It's too hard for me to middle click without hitting it left or right. Plus the fact I like wired mice. The 518 is just the next up in the 500 series, with some software based upgrades.

So what do you guys think?
