Serenity

Serenity

Go see it. Link goes to the local Fandango page.

Did I see hesitation in your mouse click? I don't want to see hesitation. You go, right now, and you see it, before it leaves the theaters.

Don't be turned off by the trailer. Don't think that you'll just catch the DVD and never actually get around to it.

Everyone NEEDS to see this movie. Even if you don't like sci fi, it has something that you'll enjoy.

Stick that in itunes or some other podcatching software that can handle video.

Automatically, the video in the previous post should download.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have the basis for an internet television station.

Testing testing

Okay folks, I'm doing some tests here for a future project that I have in mind. More info about that later (unless you already know :-] ) but let me just say it has to do with video and I'm very excited about it.

Quick Post

Quick post before I head out this morning.

I really, really do not want to go to school today.

At least we don't have spanish.

Spanish is the only class I have where I'm literally sick to my stomach to go in there. This class causes me so much stress. And I'm the guy who's built my life around NOT being stressed out.

Man.

I want to go see Serenity on Friday, at either 4:55 or 7:35. Let me know if you want to go.

Firefly

The executives at Fox television cancelled Firefly.

The executives at Fox television will spend eternity in a special circle of hell, where they will die, be resurrected, then die, again and again.

The executives at Fox television deserve to die, multiple times, for this decision.

Tanforan

Well, I went to Tanforan tonight.

One word can sum up my thoughts about it:

Disappointing.

Don't get me wrong. Its not horrible. And I'm sure that for a certain, and, might add, rather large, market, it'll be a great thing. But, for me, 16.8 year old geek, it's a disappointing experience.

Now, if I were a female, non-geek, between the ages of 14 and 28, I'd probably really like the mall.

The only redeeming quality for me is the presence of a BJ's Brewhouse. This place serves the best freaking French Dips you can purchase for your hard earned cash.

Oh, one other redeeming quality: There is both a Victoria's Secret AND a Frederick's of Hollywood.

Thats an initiative I can get behind.

Google Video

Alma Heights Half Day Retreat - Google Video

Google Video = Awesome

If you sign up, they'll host your stuff.

I'm just so happy! I finally got my mount, after about 5 days, 15 hours of in game time, over a period of 3 months. As soon as I summoned her and saw myself nobly sitting atop the fiery steed, I actually cried. I have been looking forward to being able to get a mount for 10 months, and finally, with my most favorite character, I've achieved it. /cry

Wedding

Wow.

Why is it, all of a person's responsibilities pile up on them in like, one weekend? Its crazy, I'll go weeks with not a care in the world, and suddenly, I've got like 7 different things that I have to do in a span of two days. Crazy.

But fun, as evidenced by one of the cool things that I got to do tonight.

I was hired to be the videographer at Sharon Barko and Jon Bernson's wedding. Miss Barko (now Mrs. Bernson) is one of the teachers at school. Her videographer dropped out on her at the last minute, and, since I very frequently produce videos for school events such as sports games and retreats, she asked me on Monday if I would film her wedding, on Friday. So, I did.

The wedding was held at Hamilton Square Baptist Church on Geary street in San Francisco. Beautiful church; the building is very large, with hidden passage ways all throughout! The design of the stage, with small alcoves on either side of the stage, connected by a passageway, was perfect for inconspicuous filming.

The reception had some great punch. Each of the glasses on the table had diced mangos in it, and the punch was a mango fruit punch. Mmmm it was good!

Umm, not much else to report there, other than that I wish Jon and Sharon the very best!

Lets see, some other responsibilites that I have to fulfill.... I have an American Studies paper due on Thursday, and I've done barely any work.

Tomorrow is the Flea Market, and the in-service day at church. I don't know what I'm going to do, considering the fact that I have to edit this movie and do homework. I pray that the class will earn some "fat dough" off of the chocolate fountain thing they're doing ( an odd coincidence: they had one of these things at the wedding. It looked REALLY good, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get around to getting something from it. Miss Herber said it was superb, though, and I trust her judgement, in all things =] )

Okay, well, I'm blogged out. Have I mentioned the Firefox extension "BlogThis!" on here, yet? It adds a "BlogThis!" option in the context menu that you can use to automatically open a small Blogger window, with a hyperlink to whatever site you are on at the time in the input box. This allows me to see a piece of news, right click, BlogThis!, type out some comments on whatever the piece of news is, hit publish, and I've automatically got a post with a link to whatever cool thing I want to share with my friends.

Segway Inc. Expands Worldwide Market With New Technology Licensing Program - 7 Oct 2005

Segway Inc. Expands Worldwide Market With New Technology Licensing Program - 7 Oct 2005

Smart smart move. Balancing technology can be applied to a myriad of different fields. Toys are just the first step. Next comes industrial robotics.

The maneuverability of two side-by-side wheels nearly equals that of a legged person. This is why the technology is important, because it will give machines the ability to move in the same way that we do, with the same degrees of mobility.

Very smart move....

Opinion from PC Magazine: Decentralize and Network the Federal Government Now

Decentralize and Network the Federal Government Now

John "I Get No Spam" C Dvorak has an interesting article about decentralizing the US government.

Honestly, it makes sense. We're in the twenty first century here folks. Why is anything centralized? As he says "Most of the time spent in an office is wasted time..." Isn't that true?

John Mark was discussing this with me and brought up crackers as a possible problem. But really, does this publically available information need to be ultrasecure? Besides, even for secure stuffs, the government already has experience building secure networks.

This would be great. Imagine being able to "sit" in on every meeting of congress. Imagine being able to instant message your representatives in the middle of the meeting (there'd obviously need to be some kind of moderating system, though, on second thought, some of these idiots in office really do need to see 100000 people telling them "N00b! STFU that idea is retarted! Don't b a l4mer and vote on that!")

I'm all for this. Great idea.

Plus the fact that I'd love to see "OMGWTFBBQ" appear on CSPAN whenever some congress critter does something dumb. =)

Everything is Illuminated

So.

Last night, Matt and I went out and saw Everything is Illuminated. It is the story of a young man named Jonathan Safran Foer who's grandmother, right before she dies, gives him a picture of his grandfather and another woman, named Augustine. Jonathan goes to the Ukraine and hires a Jewish Heritage touring company (consisting of an old "blind" man, his "officious seeing eye bitch" Sammy Davis Jr. Jr., and his grandson, Alexander "but my friends call me Alex, as that is much more flaccid to say"). Everything is Illuminated is an excellent film, with beautiful photography of the Ukrainian country-side, and a thought provoking story.

Unfortunately, in order to go see it, you'll have to go to the Landmark independent theater at the Embarcadero Center. This is what begins our tale of adventure. I will present this story as somewhat of a timeline:

4:00 Matt arrives at my house. We looked at the new iMac for a couple of minutes. We soon leave for the BART station.

4:15 We arrive at the BART station and catch a train.

4:25 After a largely uneventful subterranean trek, which was peppered with conversation, we emerge on Market Street. We proceed to walk a couple of blocks over to the Embarcadero Center. After pointing out the restaurant we would have patronized had my mother come with us as previously planned, we moved upstairs into the theater. The theater lobby felt very much like a theater I had been to with Nathan in Singapore.

5:00 We enter the screening room, sit, and discuss the music playing before the picture. It is interesting to note that at any moment, we can suddenly shift our conversation to technology. For an example, the likes of which are FAR too common in our conversations across the ages, we began talking about girls and the spring Banquet. Matt said something to the effect of,
"Girls, right after the banquet, are already thinking about the boy they're going to go with next year. Its crazy, just like Apple products. Right after something is announced, people go 'Wow. Okay whats next?' Intel Macs thats whats next! But they're always waiting, because right around the corner, there's going to be something new."
To which, instead of steering the conversation back toward girls, I replied
"Yeah, I wouldn't get in on the ground floor of the Intel Macs though. The first generation of a technology is always plagued with problems."
We really do have a problem.

5:15 The trailers start. We saw a trailer for a gay cowboy movie. I'm not making this up. It is about homosexual cowboys. The cowboys are played by Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhal.

5:30 The movie starts. We watch it.

6:55 We leave the theater. We start walking along these bridges connecting the buildings. I know that this is how the Embarcadero center is built, and assume that we are going in the right direction. After passing a comedy club, we find ourselves in the midst of apartments. We then decide that instead of turning around and walking back past those people we passed, we'd "have an adventure" and go down some steps that were right there. We found our way back to the Embarcadero center and walked through, looking at the closed shops. We also checked out the Hyatt Regency, because I wanted to show Matt their cool lobby/atrium fountain and sculpture. All throughout this time we were actively looking for some place to eat. Unfortunately, everything in that area is closed, because it is a business area. I wondered if we should head toward the Metreon and eat something there, and that's when Matt suggested that we eat at the Chevy's near the Moscone Center. So, we walked all the way over there.

7:30 We ate.

8:25 We started walking toward the Montgomery BART station. On the way, we went through Yerba Buena Gardens right next to the Metreon. Matt mentioned that at the Sony Store they have a life sized Snake, from Metal Gear Solid (not the "on a plane" variety of snakes), so we went inside to check it out. We looked around the store for a little while, watched a SOCOM 3 trailer, tried to play with the demo PSP units they had, but the ones we tried weren't working ("Man, this screen isn't as bright as I thought it would be!"), found Katamari Damacy on the wall of games, then we egressed from the building and walked over to BART.

9:05 We arrive at the Balboa Station, wait outside for one minute, and Mom picks us up. We then drive Matt home, because he wasn't feeling well (ate too much). I got home and crashed.

So, that was fun. Matt and I both agreed that next time maybe we should do that with girls.
