Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Saw The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy yesterday evening with Matt and Karina. Here's the story:
My dad had gotten 4 free movie ticket vouchers from Toyota, and they expired on the 30th. He and I were the only ones of the family who wished to see the film, because we both love and cherish the Hitchhiker's Trilogy (in Five Parts). So I invited Matt and Suzanne to come along. To make a long story short, Steve ended up coming into town for a surprise visit so Suzanne, understandably, canceled so that she could go spend time with him. So Karina came with us instead.
Dad and I get over to Matt's house to pick him up, and when he comes out with a towel around his shoulders, I realized that I had forgotten mine! So I borrowed one from him and we were on our way.
We got to the theater and saw several other people with towels running around. Matt and I waited for Karina outside, and when she walked up she had no clue what the towels were for, or, indeed, exactly what movie we were seeing.
So we enter the theater, sit down, watch the previews, and the movie begins. I'm not going to give any spoilers, but it was awesome. It perfectly captured the spirit of the Hitchhiker's story and universe, while changing it enough to make a good movie.
My favorite point in watching the film was when I little kid behind us said, when Marvin did something depressing, "Mommy, I like that robot!" That kid is too awesome, and I'm happy that the parents are exposing him to the classic Geek literature. HEHE PUN!
After the movie, we were walking back to the car when we saw a whole bunch of friends from school! We saw Melanie, Jayme, April, Josh, Rachelle, and Danielle; it was fun to have such an improbable event happen immeadiately after watching a movie where a main plot device is a spaceship that forces improbable events to happen.
All in all it was a great evening and a great movie!
